this is the outbreak story that me and Ace wrote together in the hanger.....enjoy
It was dark, and Sabor had no idea where he was. He looked left and right only to see that the moon was a bright red, stained in blood. He felt so sick he thought he might have had the west nile virus. He heard a noise near-by and then a bush stirred. he sat down, not feeling so well he vomitted. This place gave him a bad feeling.
Ace landed his Arwing on a strange field. He had never been nhere before. In fact, he was unsure of how he even got here. He looked out of the Arwing's canopy. It was obviously night. The moon was out and stars were clearly visible. But Ace wasn't looking at the stars. The moon, crimson-stained as if Luna herself had been plagued with blood, held Ace's attention. Just where was this strange place? Ace opened up the Arwing flight tracking computer. Blank. Nothing was there. As if it's memory had been wiped. Odd.
Ace opened up his pack and readied a HazMat mask, just in case the Atmosphere was posionous. He checked his six-shooter and readied his trusty Rapier. The Arwing's canopy opened and to his surprise, the air seemed clean and pure. Ace put away the hazmat gear, but kept everything else. You never know.
This planet, something seemed unnatural about it. Other than the Ruby moon, that is. Ace felt as if the scattered trees were watching him as he trekked through the fairly exposed grassland with no obvious destination in mind. There was a reason he came here, but he could not fathom it. It was as he were guided to this forsaken place by some unseen force. He gripped the handle on his rapier tighter. Ace was determined to find out why he was here.
There was another noise, he wiped off his lip and stared into the dark distance. Once there had to be life, something human, he could smell it in the hair, but the question was, when, and where. He went outside the small landing he landed his pitch black wolfen in to explore this place. He wondered if Ace had made it here alright, they got seperated and lost contact. He decided to try again, he pressed small button on his headpeice. "Come in, Come in, Ace do you read me?" The only answer was a loud buzzing noise telling him there was no reception. "I should have switched to Cingular" He joked to himself trying to make him feel better. Knowing Ace he knew that if he landed here he would be serious and get right down to business finding what was in this place. He decided that he would enter the forest and explore it for things that might led him to some clues about the place. He entered the forest, as deep as the dark roaring valley itself he heard a deep growl. Snapping into his stance he came to his senses and turned back into the Sabor everyone knew. Fearlessly, he comfroted the being that decided to challange him. He drew a saber and an Uzi, he was ready for whatever it was.
A large bug the size of a watermelow came forth, Sabor jumped back in shock at the size. He was surprised that something like that was possible. He threw his saber at it testing it's relexes. The beetle-like creature swiftly dodged with a sideways jump. "damn," Sabor swore.
As quick as light h dashed for his sword enplanted in the hard earth, while emptying a clip into the beetle. The beetle dodged most of it but got hit and was stunned by the ammo that was unknown to it. Not wasting a second, he put his uzi away and grabbed his desert eagle, and blasted the tennis ball sized head, off the body.
Ace continued his walk through this seemingly endless field. Ahead of him lied a massive rock wall.
"Woo, this will be fun scaling," he thought to himself. "I ought to get the Arwing and simply fly over it."
And thus, Ace about faced and nearly ran smack into his shadow. His Shadow!?!?!? What was going on here! Shadows are merely the abscense of light, not sientient beings! Ace knew this, and yet here was his own shadow, smack-dab in front of him. And it just drew it's rapier.
"What the heck?" Ace had no time to question, as the shadow stabbed at him. He drew his six shooter and fired off a shot into the shadow's head. It went clean through him.
"I could've guessed that would happen." He then backflipped to dodge another stab, and drew his rapier and parried a strike in the same motion. The shadow countered, and responded with a low slash. Ace jumped, and struck out, but the shadow was too quick. It dodged, and began making random slashes with its murky-black rapier that looked so much like the shadow that it was simply an extension of the shadow's figure.
Ace slowly backed away, seeing an opportunity. The shade kept randomly striking, but Ace saw a pattern: high, low, right, left, high, low... He waited for the next "high" strike and jumped. The figure didn't have time to react when Ace's sword came trusting down into its skull. But, as soon as the rapier made contact with the ghostly apparition, it vanished. Gone. Was it dead? Ace chose not to think about it, but continue on towards his Arwing.
Little did he know it, but during the fight, the crimson moon had flared, surrounded by an orange glow, not unlike the Sun's Corona. As soon as the shadow disappeared, the "corona" did too.
Ace was a trained Special Air Arm graduate at the Cornerian Military Academy. He had been trained to keep his cool as the floorboards of the transport he was on came apart. He was trained to remain poised in an execution line, watching his best buddies being cruelly killed knowing he was next. But this planet managed to unnerve him. That last fight, against his own shadow nonetheless! had managed to completely get under his skin.
Unconsciously walking at a faster than usual pace, Ace soon arrived at the Arwing's landing site. But, what he found did nothing to calm his anxious nerves.
The Arwing, a standard Arwing 64 that he had borrowed for this mission, his regular arwing being in the shop, was completely destroyed. It looked as if some dreadful beast had taken the ship and torn it apart with its bare hands. There was a rough split down the center where something had cruelly hewed the ship apart. But, what got Ace the most was the fang marks all over the ships body. He placed his hand in on of the marks. It was wider than his palm. Whatever this beast was, it had a massive maw. And Ace didn't feel like personally measuring it.
Ace searched through the wreckage, and made some surprising finds. His comm unit, which must have somehow dislodged from from his head during the course of the flight, was sitting undamaged in what was left of the pilot's seat. Seeing the comm unit struck a memory in Ace. He didn't come here alone. His whole squadron was suppossed to come here. For something. But what was that something? And just who from his squadron was here? Had they made it too? Had any of them encountered anything supernatural like he had? Had they seen the creature that destroyed his Arwing?
With this discovery providing more questions than answers, Ace set off in the opposite direction than he had come from. Hopefully he wouldn't run into another imposing wall like the one he had encountered earlier. And he fervrently hoped that he wouldn't meet up with the beast that had totaled his Arwing...
Sabor was still in disbelieve, then looking up into the sky, he saw a flare, on the moon. Odd, why was there even a moon on this small planet, the gavitional pull wouldn't be strong eno0ugh to support it, the gravity here is 2/3 of what the earth's is but that's not enough to support a moon that huge. Sabor sighed, confused. he had no idea where he was or what he could do about it, he had lost the trail and started for the direction of the moon to get a closer look. Suddenly, a redback snapping turtle the size of an elepant came out of the shadows, it was pitch black and seemed unreal. It lunged and took a deep large bite out of the ground. Its jaws were so largeit could have eaten him alive. It also moved at a surprising rate, unhuman, then again it wasn't human at all. It was a living shadow.
He took out his right-handed saber and an Uzi, after emptying a clip into the shadow, it took no effect but instead the turtle shimmered and the moon glowed for a second, then all of the sudden it froze. Not wasting the moment, he drew his left-handed saber and threw it up into the thin moist air, making it spin at an estimated angle. It landed into the hard soil at 48.93 degrees of an angle, perfect for his signature move. He was already sprinting towards the saber, at the speed of light he jumped right on the side of the hilt, being made of an unknown substance, it didn’t break from his weight. He was launched into the air, at an inhuman height. Keeping his arm with the saber extended, he tucked into a packed ball, and used the momentum to do a large amount of front flips in a small amount of time, turning him into a human saw. Big or small, anything that made contact with this move was instantly sliced all the way through. A large shadow turtle that was big enough to haven o problem hitting shouldn’t be an exception. After reaching the turtle, it turned to normal again and snapped at Sabor’s human saw, and when it should have gotten it’s head, or inside of his mouth and throat, the turtle vanished. Sabor not sure what happened, stopped flipping and landed on his feet. Confused about what just happened he checked under the turtle position for something strange, but there was nothing. He looked at the moon once more which flared again. Yup, he had been right, he knew exactly what was happening, it was an old story passed down through his family, and he always thought it was a myth. But it looks like it was true after all, now if only he could remember how to stop this crazy planet before it ends up like Venus did.
As Ace was walking towards no particular objective, just somewhere away from his Arwing, he looked towards the sky. There was something about this planet's Crimson moon that captivated him. Ace slowly stopped walking as he gazed at the blood stain in the sky. As he was taking it in, it suddenly flared up! A massive Corona appeared around this creepy satellite, much like the one that surrounds Solar, the Lylatian star. Seeing this firey crown made Ace remember another part of his journey that had been forgotten as he arrived on this Godforsaken place.
Ace's amnesia lost one more bit of it's grip on his memory. He remembered that Sabor's Wolfen was on his wing as they were coming towards this planet. But, then something happened. What was it? The fact that Sabor had been close by this place meant that he had a chance of being here too! Unless he had...No, Ace couldn't focus on that now. Sabor might be here, and Ace had to find him. Ace remembered that Sabor loved to study the supernatural back in the SS library on Hanger 72. Perhaps he might be able to shed some light on this mysterious planet.
Hanger 72...man, Ace sure wished he was back home. In his nice Executive Suite on the upper observatory floor, in his nice comfy bed, sipping a sweet...
Ace drifted off into thought. He hadn't slept since he got here, and he was beginning to feel it. Ace looked around. There was a large, sturdy rock face with an overhang nearby. A creek ran close by it, and there was a small stand of trees just across the creek.
"It'll do," he thought. Ace needed to make some form of shelter to rest in. He began to gather large sticks and carry them back to the overhang. Recalling his survival training, Ace was quickly able to construct a fully enclosed shelter with enough room for two. Ace always added extra room to his shelters, and he inevitibility found something to fill the space. He first stacked the large logs and bigger sticks to form a "V" shaped structure jutting out from the overhang. A good rockface always was a great place to base a shelter on: you could guarentee at least one side wouldn't fall in on you. He weaved twigs and limber sticks between the spaces in the logs, and then packed in mud from the creek to fill in the spaces. He had finished in less than an hour.
Next, he made a small pallett on the ground out of soft branches and the outer jacket part of his flight suit. The tiny crawl space he had left in between two of the logs was just barely big enough for him to squeeze through. He stacked large rocks on the inside of the hole, effectively sealing himself inside. Ace then surveyed his inventory. He had his usual weapons, scraps of metal from the Arwing, a comm unit, and a survival kit he had also salvaged from the wreck. Hmm. The comm unit.
Ace turned it on and surveyed the channels. All static. He thought about Sabor and decided to try again. Still nothing. He was getting fed up. He turned the unit to the channel SS always used, and left a Text Message:
"Attention all Spectre Squadron members. This is Ace. Mayday. I have been stranded on a small planet, have partial amnesia, and am in a Survival situation. My coordinates are 22"34'X, 53"62'Y, 92"19'Z. Anyone who recives this, report in."
Anyone who had a comm unit and checked that channel would be able to read it and know his position. Ace hoped that his team would be the only ones out here with a comm link.
Ah, his eyes were getting droopy. Ace usually made a fire before going to sleep in survival situations, but he figured he would be somewhat safe tonight. He hoped he would be safe tonight. Ace gripped the handle of his Rapier, and lied down.
Just as he was getting to sleep, a sound made him jump to attention. He was smart enough to put his shelter in a shaded location on the rockface. You'd have to look really hard to see it. Ace moved one twig to reveal a peephole he had purposely left there.
In the dim perpetual twilight, Ace could make nothing out. But, then he looked closer. It appeared to be an oddly human shaped creature. He took the heat/radar scope off of his sniper rifle to take a closer look. The heat showed nothing, but the radar produced a clear image. It looked like a figure in typical SS armor. He seemed to carry three large pistol-like objects on his sides, and on his back were the hilts of two massive swords.
Ace's heart jumped! He ran to the comm unit. After punching in the code for encrypted communication between SS leaders, he spoke into the mic:
"Sabor! Sabor, come in! This is Ace. Are you walking in a open field right now? Please respond!!!!"
No Answer.
Surely this high-priority communication reached Sabor's ears, wherever they were.
No Answer.
Ace could no longer stand it. He had to see Sabor, the figure obviously standing there. He crawled out of the shelter, and noticed Sabor was closer. Ace yelled out, but there was no answer. The figure did however turn towards the sound. It saw Ace, and began to run at him. Ace put on a huge smile, preparing to greet his wingman. Then he noticed the moon.
It had the corona again.
Ace looked down and got a good look at the figure. It was Sabor, alright. It had his sabers, his twin Uzis, his desert eagle. What it didn't have was light.
Ace had just met Sabor's Shadow.
