Chester Hurley is trimming a tree in his back yard. He is standing on a ladder twenty feet up and as he reaches as high as he can to get this
one branch he falls hitting the ground landing him in a coma. The doctors tell his wife they have a new experimental drug which could bring Chet out of the coma with no physical or mental defects. Sue, Chet's wife, is all for it however the doctors tell her there is one stipulation. Sue must play Chet's favorite rock songs to him at least eight to ten hours everyday. The doctors tell Sue that her husband will envision very lucid dreams while
the song is playing. Chet will dream up stories about each song. Here is what Chester drempt when he heard the song; "Heroes" by David Bowie.
To set this up Chet's brother-in-law and father-in-law took a trip to Paris France a year before Chet's accident. Chet's father-in-law always wanted to see Normandy Beach so let's pick up the story from here,
"And the guns shot above our heads...." Oh man this is cool I love this song, I'm floating above this bus, it's a tour bus. Who is inside the bus? Holy crap, it's Mark and Bob. Where are they? No way, they are on their way to Omaha Beach. Bob is talking to an old soldier, "So you were here
back on June 6th 1944?" Wow Bob remembers the date.
"Yeah I was here, I was a Ranger in the army, just a punk kid. I'm a little nervous going back but once I get out of the bus I should be fine."
Jeez a real hero look at him, all the wisdom he must poccess. Mark is taking pictures as usual. Oh, look at the channel! THis is where it all went down.
"Okay, we get off here" The bus driver opens the door. "The museum is off to your right, the bus leaves in two hours, enjoy."
"Is this how you remembered it?" Mark asked the old soldier snapping his camera.
"Well it does look the same in a sense. I see a snack stand over there. I wish they had one of those back then."
No kidding? What wait oh no I'm in the water now?
"And we could be heroes just for one day..."
"Get your ass down soldier."
Don't have to tell me twice. This is insane.
"Hurley! Hurley! Get over here double time, move it."
"Yes sir."
"Are you hungry private?"
"What's that Sargeant?"
"Did I stutter soldier? I said are you hungry?"
"Well, I did have a small breakfast, those bagels I don't
know they just don't taste the same as back home and the
cream cheese, yuck."
"All I needed was a yes or know answer, now i want you
to take this note pad and take everybodys food order."
"Food order, sir?"
"Yes, do you see that snack stand on the beach at two o'clock?"
"Yes sir."
"Now I want a double cheeseburger, no pickles, light mayo
no forget the mayo, just ketchup and a bag of chips. Get me a diet Coke
or Pepsi. Got it!"
"Got it sir."
"we could be heroes just for one day"
Chet floats back to the bus and hugs the man who is the real hero.
He thanks the man and tells him he is greatfull for all he did for his
country.
