The Real Meaning of Christmas 2008
This Christmas just like the last and just like any other for the past thousand years our preachers, psychologists, newspapers or others will tell us what the "Real Meaning of Christmas" is all about.
While you may have heard this one before; it likely needs to be repeated again and again.
This Christmas to use the word “God” is sort of a sacrilegious slander in our current US culture. In the United States this year, the number one cash crop is still “Marijuana” estimated at over 36 Billion dollars, that’s more than the total from corn and wheat combined.
Meanwhile the financial cash crop of our homes has been reduced to rubble as homeowners are loosing there homes to banks at an all time high. And we have to bail out the banks by our increased taxes.
To wish someone “Merry Christmas” can be politically incorrect and down right rude. Put up a “manger” in your town square and you liable to be sued.
The average American youth watches 4 to 5 hrs of TV per day and that doesn’t count the amount of time they spend playing video games. No wonder why many of our kids can’t read or write and some can’t think inside or outside a box.
What’s wrong with these pictures?
We could go on and on about the state of affairs in this country, other country’s and the problems of this planetary puzzle with over 6 billion people and how my piece of the American pie fits in to scheme of things, but, hey it's Christmas, it's time to share with our loved ones, to snuggle up around the fireplace, drink some eggnog, sing some songs and for some of us even to go to church.
Most of us in one lifetime will get maybe 80 to 90 Christmases. It may be valuable to find out the “Real Meaning of Christmas” on one of these sleigh rides on this planet as we circle our sun for another Christmas year.
So what of the “Real Meaning of Christmas” anyway?
First of all Christmas comes from two words "Christ and Mass."
MASS in one sense of the definition has to do with "a ceremony or
celebration of."
CHRIST comes from the Greek word Christos (the anointed) from cherin (to anoint).
ANOINT one definition is; to put oil on in a ceremony of making sacred or consecrating to “high office.”
So for me after doing some research into the meaning of Christmas, I came to the conclusion that this Christmas people of all religions in any city, state or country need to have a ceremony to celebrate the anointing of themselves and others to a "higher office." This consecration to a higher office must include taking on some task in bettering the conditions of mankind on this planet. A task by the way I believe Jesus Christ took on some 2000 years ago. It’s a big job to handle this planet, how about bearing part of that cross.
What ever your religion or nationality for God’s sake “Give God A Hand ” I think he needs our help this year probably more than the last. So get out the cooking oil, butter, margarine or if nothing else use water, put some on your forehead or on the forehead of another and become anointed to a higher office. Now start giving something of yourself to better conditions for mankind and this planet and keep on giving till we clean things up a bit.
Now that would be a gift worth giving. Those that have eyes to see know what is needed and those that can hear know that is the “Real Meaning of Christmas.”
