OMEN OF THE FUTURE
As Apollo sits, relaxed and daydreaming;
his thoughts carry him to the land of enchantment,
West Virginia.
Venus and Apollo drive along highway 32
observing Spruce Knob and Seneca Rocks.
She is a beautiful, petite blonde
with radiating hazel/blue eyes.
Oh how Apollo loves her White Diamonds.
What a breathtaking, sensual aroma it is,
like a cool, fresh morning breeze.
They pass the rolling plain of Canaan Valley
and enter Blackwater Falls State Park.
Luscious green carpets stretch for miles.
Stopping at Blackwater Falls Lodge for water,
they mutually agree a hike would be refreshing,
so they head down the Waterfalls Trail.
The surroundings are quiet and serene.
Above, the ravens circle about
below, chipmunks scatter everywhere.
Venus admires a bed of colorful pansies
clad in their pastels: pink, yellow and blue.
To their right, they see a whitetail deer
hiding among the hemlocks and white pines.
Autumn leaves of auburn and orange
begin to spiral to the ground.
Venus likes to hear them crunching underfoot.
Pausing, Apollo takes in her beauty
as the sun’s rays and gilded forest shadows
highlight her youthful angelic face.
After hundreds of feet of clopping footsteps
they arrive at the base of Blackwater Falls.
They are lucky the boardwalk is dry.
What a spectacular display!
Cascading sixty feet over gigantic gray boulders
the thunder roar of water echoes in the canyon
as it creates a foamy, white pool below.
Awe-struck Venus and Apollo embrace tightly
and share the thrill of the moment.
Suddenly a lone white dove drops in
and lands on the wooden railing.
Venus smilingly blinks at the dove,
and then looks back at Apollo and asks:
“Do you think that is an omen of the future?”
