Same here feralpen ... I always stop too and I've had many a lost dog take up temporary residency at my home until the owner is reached.
You're in a very public place. You see a frazzled mom with a very unruly child. You witness her spank the child, open handed, sternly on the buttocks and once only.
Do you view objectively and reflect on your personal convictions about corporal punishment or do you confront the lady openly and give her your view?
Very tough question to answer, because there are so many circumstances that would determine my reaction and action. Even a single open handed spank can be too much if the force behind the one spank is over powering and you witness that the child is obviously hurt from the spank, not just startled or receiving a little sting from the spank.
I would have to say if I witness that the child is obviously physically harmed by a single spank I would have to speak up and tell the mother to calm down and not attempted to control her child with physical force again. If it is a tempered spank on the child's bottom, I would most likely view objectively.
You have one of the leads in a stage production and you are aware that a number of important critics and directors will be in the house for that evenings and following evenings' performance. You receive an urgent call from your family that your grandfather/grandmother/aunt/uncle/family member other than immediate family, has just had a heart attack, is on a ventilator and is not expected to survive. They hope that you will come home on the next flight to say your "last goodbye." Do you leave immediately and let the understudy perform or stay for the performances?
