*Gasp!* Ace has another poem! That "Fiddle" poem I penned a while back was a spur of the moment write. I do hope you didn't judge my poetic skills on that one alone. I consider this peom my best one out of the very few I have written. I know we have a good sized contingent of folks from the British Isles here, so they might see more in this poem than the Americans. I've studied the Battle of Britain for a while, and I consider it the turning point of WWII. A few months ago the idea struck me to write this, so I sat down and this is what came out. I managed to get it published in the local paper, so it already exceeded my expectations in that respect. Okay, enough rambling.

Ode to The Few
A Poem of Remembrance by ArwingAce21
The melancholy sapphire expanse, familiar to all
As yet, unclaimed, unconquered by many
Tamed only by The Few
Lonely warriors of the Air
Sole champions of the Sky
Solitary campaigners of the Heavens
Saviors of an entire Country
The Few, opposed by Many
Evil swarms, hundreds of Huns
Converging upon a homeland
The sapphire expanse, soon soiled with crimson
Marred with the lifeblood of its Sons
A dark cloud concealed a glorious light
When all seemed lost, a power appeared to fight
The evil swarms; The Few
Arose to become
Saviors of an entire Country
Their clashes, climatic, chaotic, yet chivalrous
Are the essence of legend and myth
However, even through the hype
A country lost her sons
Their lives were sacrificed, not in vain
For The Few, the cost was not too great
For their home, no price could be too high
The evil swarms in futile efforts attacked
For their leader, in blind ambition
Underestimated The Few, their tenacity and drive
For them, their fate was to fight, defend, and become
Saviors of an entire Country
Today, in silent fields, one can gaze up
Into the melancholy blue and see
The Few, the Sky Warriors, valiantly defending
A land, a home, a way of life
And, faintly upon the breeze, hear
The battles rage, evil swarms and noble angels clash
And watch The Few, the
Saviors of an entire Country
The melancholy sapphire expanse, familiar to all
As yet, unclaimed, unconquered by many
Tamed only by The Few
Lonely warriors of the Air
Sole champions of the Sky
Solitary campaigners of the Heavens
Saviors of an entire Country
